Abstract

This study will address the assessment of digital skills in first-year university students in the January-June semester of 2025. The need for research stems from the lack of tools aimed at higher education in relation to the mastery of information and communication technologies as a fundamental tool for current academic performance. A quantitative approach and a non-experimental cross-sectional design were selected with a sample of 24 first-year students. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire with 46 items, validated by experts and based on international scales that addressed five main dimensions: information literacy, digital communication and collaboration, digital content creation, online presentation, security, and technical problem solving. The results obtained revealed important aspects of the digital competency profile with which university students enter their academic journey. The sample was predominantly female, with an age concentration in the 21-23 range, specifically, which corresponds to the particular demographic characteristics of this cohort. Using SPSS version 28.0 for statistical analysis, this research identifies strengths and critical areas in the different dimensions evaluated. In addition, empirical evidence is developed on the digital skills of the current cohort of post-secondary students in transition, contributing to the established knowledge in the area.

Ricardo García Parada , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Dr. Ricardo García Parada is a distinguished professional with more than 12 years of experience in the field of administration and a solid academic background that includes a Master's Degree in Human Talent Management, a Master's Degree in Education Sciences, and a Doctorate in Administration. He currently works as a lecturer at the National Technological Institute of Mexico, Chihuahua II Campus, teaching classes in various degree programs such as Business Management Engineering, Administration, Industrial Engineering, and Systems. Throughout his career, he has held key positions such as office manager, information center manager, special projects supervisor, business administrator, and program coordinator. He is also an active member of editorial committees for academic journals such as IPSUMTEC and MAQUIS, as well as international research networks, establishing himself as a leader in the educational and administrative fields.

Aureliano Quiñonez Ruiz , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Aureliano is an electronic engineer (2002) and holds a master's degree in industrial engineering, both from the Technological Institute of Los Mochis. He has taught in the departments of electrical and electronic engineering and basic sciences at the same institute. as well as at ITESUM. He has conducted academic and technical-scientific research and given lectures, courses, and workshops. He has worked in the industry at GM dealerships and Autogas Internacional S.A. de C.V.

Adriana Guadalupe Cota Bojórquez , National Technological Institute of Mexico

Industrial Engineer Adriana Guadalupe Cota Bojórquez is a professional with a solid academic background and a career focused on developing technical and analytical skills in the field of industrial engineering. A graduate of the Sonora Institute of Technology, she complemented her professional growth with a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Los Mochis Institute of Technology, thus strengthening her ability to address production processes, continuous improvement, and operations management with a strategic approach.
