Comparative Analysis of the Development of Local and Foreign Supplier Companies for Companies Registered under the IMMEX Program, Case Study: Ciudad Juárez Chihuahua, Mexico tune share more_vert

Abstract

The creation of the Manufacturing Promotion Program (IMMEX) emerged with the purpose of boosting the development and competitiveness of the manufacturing sector and generating greater exports in the country, strengthening its economy and promoting its integration into international markets. All of this through a series of incentives that would encourage the arrival of foreign companies, propitiating the generation of new jobs and the economic growth of the areas where these companies settled. This also contemplated the formation and development of companies producing locally sourced inputs required by these companies that were attracted by the benefits granted by said program. This research sought to identify that there has indeed been a development of local suppliers of inputs since the creation of the IMMEX program in 2006 and if this growth is equal to or better than that of foreign suppliers of inputs. The analysis was carried out through a longitudinal study with statistical data from sources such as the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the Ministry of Economy and some non-governmental organizations. The information obtained identified an average annual growth of 20% for both local and foreign suppliers of inputs. The difference lies in the percentage participation of both types of suppliers, since foreign companies supply 98% of the total inputs consumed by companies attached to the IMMEX program, unlike local suppliers which only occupy 2%. This showed that, although there was a gradual growth of both suppliers, there is a large margin of difference in the percentage participation of these, with respect to the total inputs consumed by the companies attached to the IMMEX program.
